hundred word wednesday – “early dismissal”

In Hundred Word Wednesdays on March 7, 2012 at 12:06 pm

It is a warming late winter day, not a cloud in the sky. Still, would be nice to get out of work early, wouldn’t it?

The snow started, and just like that, the children stopped paying attention. ‘Why does he bother trying to teach us about geology?’ they wondered. They could go home early. And so instead of soaking up knowledge, they sent out their wishes and their prayers for the snow to keep coming.

As the snow petered out, Mr. Giovanni sighed inwardly. He could never let the kids know how much he wanted to get out, and how disappointing each melted snowflake was to him.

He steeled himself and pretended to care more about volcanoes than a sadly work-filled afternoon.
