hundred word wednesday – “rite of passage”

Here is a coming of age tale. If you haven’t come of age, this story should do the trick. Godspeed to you, children.

The hair showed up eleven days after his fourteenth birthday. It wasn’t his first puberty-related hair, not by a long shot, but it was his most exciting.

He’d never seen a hair in precisely that place on anyone, so he felt a strange sense of pride in it. It was a gift.

He strutted into school the next day, and he relished the attention. He knew that he was a weird kid, but he was happier that way. For one glorious morning, all eyes were on him and the unique, wiry hair protruding from the tip of his nose.
