hundred word wednesday – “the writing on the wall”

Phew. Happy New Year. Feeling good, feeling hopeful, and so I have no idea where this dreary tale came from. Maybe if I’m feeling too hopeful my brain needs to compensate. Oh well. Sorry. Candy!

He spelled the word carefully. Precision was very important in situations like this. He only had a small amount of ink, and his message needed to be absolutely clear.

He deliberately completed the final letter, placed a period after, and stepped back. He could not yet bear to look. His final words, written on the walls of the last room he would ever see. Soon they were coming for him. Finality crippled him, and he never saw what he had written. No one did. He heard the planes fly overhead, then an otherworldly whistling sound, and then nothing.
