hundred word wednesday – “the cave”

This one isn’t a full story, just the beginning of one. First Hundred Word Wednesday might be more accurate. I don’t know what happens in the rest of the story, but it feels longer than a hundred words. Here you go.

“You’re not from here,” said a voice from the back of the cave. “But I suppose we can’t fault you for that.”

John jumped at the sound of the voice, shocked to find that he wasn’t alone. The cave was full of people he hadn’t noticed moments earlier.

“I’m sorry, I didn’t realize -” he began.

“No no, stranger, no need to be sorry.” The speaker was an old bearded man. “We’ve always got room for one more. Please, sit, and tell us about yourself.” Hands appeared and ushered John toward the center of the cave, and he sat.
