hundred word wednesday – “water”

In Hundred Word Wednesdays on October 5, 2011 at 1:07 pm

A preface: I find it funny that typed this story and then put it on a website without even wondering if, just this once, these tiny electrons bumping into each other wouldn’t recreate everything perfectly on your computer screen. The world is complex and marvelous, and none of us have any idea how it works.

All he’d wanted was a sip of water, and he had ended up here. Those thirty seconds drinking from the water fountain had led directly to his shattered spine.

He knew it had really been random chance, but he felt somewhat justified in blaming the pervasive convenience of every aspect of his life. He hadn’t had to work for that sip of water; he’d only had to turn and press a button. His whole existence worked this way. He had become lazy, and always expected the world to comply, and that was why he hadn’t noticed the car.
