hundred word wednesday – “rabbits”

In Hundred Word Wednesdays on September 21, 2011 at 12:41 pm

Today’s story concerns rabbits, which are animals that I don’t really understand. In the wild, as pets – what are they doing there? Anyway, here is my story.

Tom and his father had raised rabbits since Tom’s childhood. They kept them in weather-proof cages. That was the way it was.

One night, Tom had a dream in which his rabbits ran free. They weren’t happier, as rabbits have no notion of happiness, or good, or bad. But in this dream, his rabbits felt somehow more real than they did while he was awake.

After this, Tom and his father, ever practical, kept the cages. But each day, Tom spent time with each of his rabbits individually, and occasionally, for a few short minutes, let them run free.
