hundred word wednesday – “puzzle”

In Hundred Word Wednesdays on May 18, 2011 at 11:21 pm

40 minutes before deadline, here’s this Wednesday’s story. YEAH.

Mark moved his fingers slowly along the surface of the wood, searching idly for any small bump or imperfection. His grandfather had willed him this wooden cube, with a simple message: “Open me and find out why.”

He never found out why, and neither had his grandfather. After all, there is no way to elegantly open a solid block of wood. But the point of the box wasn’t to open it, they both knew that.

And so, separately, over the course of their lives, they both kept returning to the box, as a source of comfort and mystery.

  1. WHAT’S IN THE BOX???!!!
