hundred word wednesday – “space”

In Hundred Word Wednesdays on April 13, 2011 at 9:42 am

Here is a story about a spaceship, and a guy on a spaceship. More deeply, I guess, it is about the concept of home. Next week’s story will be about a clown who only always makes hilarious jokes.

It was a decent enough spaceship, and for now, it was home. The AI unit was roughly as interesting as his friends back on Earth, and exactly as predictable. The on-board biodome approximated perpetual spring. It was all he could ever ask for.

But he always felt like something was missing. Something about the recycled air and gently curving floor, the precisely prepared food and rationed alcohol. Something about looking out a window and seeing nothing at all.

It was his fifty-second day. He made another hashmark on his wall, walked the halls, and spent the day thinking about Home.
