hundred word wednesday – “ice cream”

More glimpses of warm weather this week, and childhood. This was basically me as a youngin’. I “crushed” easily, then never did anything about it. That was my strategy. I am shocked that it actually more or less payed off.

Ice cream dripped down his chin, but he was blissfully unaware of it. He had just caught a glimpse of Laura walking with her parents, and nothing else in the world mattered. She was the cutest girl in his class, and he loved her without reservation.

He saw their future through the rosy, asexual lens of a seven-year-old. He saw happiness and floral dresses, holidays and family meals. He heard birds chirping and felt the sun warm his skin. He saw hugging, hand-holding, children and houses.

Certain that his life would be wonderful, he set about finishing his ice cream.
