hundred word wednesday – “marvelous”

In Hundred Word Wednesdays on January 19, 2011 at 11:21 pm

On time this week.  You know the drill. Read and enjoy, and maybe write your own.

“Marvelous” was the word she used most when she was pleased, and it became the word he hated hearing the most. They often fought about nothing at all, simply because he was so annoyed that she had used that word.

They broke up, as people who are not meant to be together often do, and they met up again years later. She was beautiful and charming, and engaged to someone else. He was lonely, and he enjoyed seeing her again.

When they parted, she told him it had been marvelous to see him, and he’d never wanted her more.

  1. “Moist panties” kept appearing in his stories. Around the dinner table, at the bar, on car trips. Did he go out of his way to include that phrase? Sometimes he used it metaphorically. Always, it disgusted her.

The relationship ended, and they met again years later. He was overbearing but successful, a cell phone clipped to his belt. His stories remained overbearing, but they were more sophisticated now, dyed with the wisdom of middle age, and she let her guard down.

When they parted, he kissed her on the cheek, whispered “moist panties” in her ear, and was gone.

  2. I see what you did there.
