hundred word wednesdayfriday – “kung pao”

Ok, yes, I know, it’s not Wednesday or WednesdayFriday – it’s just Friday. Nevertheless, there is still one more tiny story on the blog this week than there would have been otherwise, so I’m gonna call this a victory for me. Expect more haikus and stories and things next week. Until then, feel free to comment with your own story, or to praise me on how great my story is.

He was watching the Green Bay Packers on television, beer in one hand, the other hand down his pants, when he felt the lump. He had never really tried to face his own mortality before, and the next two seconds were the longest in his 23-year-old life.

He thought of the first time he’d eaten Kung Pao Chicken at the terrible Chinese restaurant in his childhood town, the heat of it, the grease on his lips, the wide-eyed wonder of a new taste.

Unconsciously, he removed the lump from his pants, looked down to find only a peanut, and sighed.
